Played through this game with my niece and nephew when they were younger. They enjoyed the story and worked together to choose where to go and what to do next. Telltale has some great games out and I'm glad they stuck to a lot of their point and click beginnings. Came as part of a bundle.. this game is a game that does not exists. With only a few dollars balance left on my account, I remembered back to my childhood when "Bone" was the most relevant and popular graphic novel out there. It had great characters, an interesting plot, and an expansive world and mythology. Now all these factors should translate well into a game, right? Sadly, Telltale did not live up to the comic with this game.Firstly, it is a point-and-click game. While in theory this would work in favour, there is just not enough to observe in the enviorments. It's a rather empty game, lacking in atmosphere and inspiration. The dull voice-acting doesn't help at all. There are several moments where the game transitions to a sort-of "mini-game" mode, and these segments do not work at all. They're unclear, dodgy in response, and attribute nothing to the experience.All in all: Stick to the comic-book. F&@k this game.. This adaptation of Jeff Smith's first graphic novel in the Bone series will best be remembered as a warm-up lap for the Telltale engine. While the platform is destined for great things, the scenario builders never seem motivated to go beyond the script and supply the player with any of the hallmark adventure game tropes (asides, red herrings, opportunities to use x on a, b, c, ...n) that fully populate the developer's subsequent Sam and Max series. Episode 1 is abbreviated and completely linear: there's only about 20 screens (many of which are revisited with minimal new stuff), a handful of inventory items allowing very few interactions, plenty of optional dialogue that often circles plot points ad nauseum, and very little to actually *do*. The half-dozen or less puzzles that appear interspersed throughout the 2 hours of gameplay -are- mostly organic, and the designers do not hold the player's hand (unless you're spaming hints, but that's on you, friend). Two slightly out-of-place "chase" action sequences fall flat due to poor mouse controls, but keeping an eye on their young audience, these can be skipped after one failure.The character design is pleasingly and appropriately barebones, while the world design is sparse and feels disconnected screen-to-screen. Adequate graphics aside, I found some of the voice actors likeable enough (David Nowlin's Fone, who kinda reminds me of my Father-in-law) or amusing (the exasperated Rat Creature #2), but the dialogue just doesn't convey the world beyond its a-to-b exposition. You'll still probably leave Out From Boneville liking Fone Bone, Ted (and maybe Phoney, ya misanthrope) enough to get you to the install screen for Ep. 2--a moot point at best, as these are sold in a bundle.+ The red dragon's an agreeably phlegmatic Jack Nicholson+ Good content, attitude, length, and challenge for young gamersx Telltales' potential is obvious from the first screen... it just doesn't come to pass here.x Over before it even startsx There is a game-crashing bug an hour in, so stagger your saves and check the discussion board if you can't happen upon the correct (arbitrary) sequence of inventory actions..
